Overview
Unipart Rail is contracted by Network Rail to manage strategic materials on their behalf, there are several aspects to this which include the storage of state three (unrepaired) material at our facility in Crewe, the maintenance of the strategic materials list, additions, removals etc, and the recovery of redundant strategic materials from commissionings etc.
What are strategic materials?
Strategic
materials are classified as materials that are no longer manufactured or
supported by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), but are still in
current use throughout the
railway network and are therefore vital to maintenance of these systems.
How do I know what's strategic?
All strategic materials are identified by a '#' marker at the end of the short item description in PADS (Parts and Drawing System) and in the Unipart Rail on-line
Infrastructure Products Portal on this site.
