Another successful installation of composite bearers

BlueScope Steel at Port Kembla, NSW, Australia has recently completed an installation of Sicut composite bearers on a turnout replacing degraded timber.

The installation team commented that it “…handled just like timber and the installation was simple, quick and easy…”

The use of composite bearers unlike the carbon intensive and very expensive concrete option, provided BlueScope Steel with a circular economy solution when searching for a reliable, long term and economical replacement for the traditionally used but ever diminishing supply of timber.

These composite bearers are made from waste plastic and are fully recyclable at the end of their life making them truly sustainable and a great example of what the circular economy can achieve.
